Ogbe

Ogbè is the first of the 16 principal Odus in the Ifá divination system. It is often associated with light, beginnings, and clarity. As with all Odus, Ogbè is not just a sign in divination; it encompasses a rich tapestry of stories (Itan), proverbs, and teachings.

Understanding Ogbe

Ogbe, the Supporter- is the manifestation of pure light. It is the expansion of light from source outward. In practical terms it is movement without opposition or an open road. Ogbe as an expression of spiritual growth represents perfect alignment with destiny. Ifa teaches that every person chooses a destiny before returning to earth in the cycle of reincarnation (atunwa).
Ifa teaches that if a person lives in harmony with their destiny Nature will provide a blessing of long life, abundance and family. Failure to live in harmony with destiny generates illness, poverty and isolation. Ifa teaches that if a person is unsure about their destiny they should live in alignment with the principles of good character because everyone is believed to be inherently good.
When a person is in perfect alignment with their destiny the most imminent problem is the possibility of moving out of alignment. When Ogbe appears it brings an admonition to remain vigilant in the process of manifesting good character. The negative manifestation of Ogbe in personal terms is arrogance.
Ogbe represents light, clarity, and new beginnings. When influenced by Ogbe, external factors may bring opportunities for fresh starts, illuminating the path ahead with clarity. These external factors may inspire a person to embark on new ventures and make informed decisions.

Ogbè in Ifá Divination

In divination, Ogbè's appearance is seen as highly auspicious, indicating the presence of positive energies and the potential for success in various endeavors. It advises individuals to embrace their inner wisdom and clarity to navigate life's challenges.

When two Ogbe appear in divination, it’s called Èjì Ogbè (Baba Ifa) which symbolizes all that is known and unknown in the universe. It is an image of all the forces that create the day. The white hole- The light.

Physical Element = Water... Water takes precedence of all other Elements. It is recognized as the "Father of the Elements."

Children would be disposed to be travelers, pioneers, sailors or heads of organizations
This odu denotes plenty of good and plenty of "evil." Eji Ogbe speaks of the positive and negative forces that permeate the earth. This odu explains that both good and bad aspects of life are interconnected in fulfilling our destiny.
One translation of Eji Ogbe is "eji n mo gbe n ko gbe enikan" (I support the duality and not singularity, dimensions of every issue in life both positive and negative).
Every positive thing must be counterbalanced by an equal negative. This is why although we all aspire to be within the energy of Eji Ogbe, we must do ebo to protect us from the negative.
Eji Ogbe expresses a need to acquire wisdom and humility. Represent high ethical standards which will be rewared with enlightenment and abundance. Time heals the pain of any matter.
