Bravo, Raul Samuel
LCPL Raul Samuel Bravo, an American Marine from Elko, NV, was killed in hostile action on March 3, 2007, in Al Qaim, Iraq, during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Their Story
Lance Corporal Raul Samuel Bravo, a United States Marine, hailed from Elko, Nevada. Born in 1985, he joined the Marine Corps with a determination to serve his country and was assigned to India Company, 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines, 1st Marine Division, based out of the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, California.
LCPL Bravo was deployed to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, a military campaign that began in March 2003. The operation aimed to dismantle the weapons of mass destruction program in Iraq and bring about regime change. Bravo's unit was stationed in Al Qaim, a town in western Iraq near the Syrian border, an area known for insurgent activity.
On March 3, 2007, at the age of 21, Bravo lost his life in a hostile incident in Al Qaim. His death came during one of the most intense periods of the conflict, which saw high levels of sectarian violence and insurgent attacks.
His passing was reported by the Marine Corps as a combat-related casualty, reflecting the ongoing dangers faced by service members in Iraq at that time. His loss was felt deeply in his hometown of Elko and among his fellow Marines.
Operation Iraqi Freedom officially concluded in August 2010, marking the end of a contentious and prolonged military engagement. The memory of those who served, including LCPL Bravo, remains indelibly imprinted on the hearts of their loved ones and comrades.
