Their Story

Lance Corporal Aaron Robert Boyles, born and raised in Newark, California, was a dedicated member of the United States Marine Corps. At the time of his death, he was serving with the Headquarters and Service Company, Regimental Combat Team 7, 1st Marine Division, stationed out of Twentynine Palms, California.

Boyles was deployed to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, a military operation initiated by the United States in March 2003. This conflict was marked by the toppling of the Ba'athist government and later transitions to counter-insurgency operations amid increasing resistance.

On September 24, 2004, Boyles lost his life in Al Anbar Province, a region that witnessed significant conflict during the war. His death was classified as hostile, a term indicating it was a result of enemy action.

Throughout his service, Boyles was part of efforts to stabilize the region and support local rebuilding efforts. His unit, RCT-7, was tasked with a range of operations including security and combat missions.

Boyles was among the 4,418 American military personnel who died in Iraq during the operation, a conflict that lasted until August 2010. His death underscored the ongoing challenges faced by coalition forces in the region.
