CPL Theodore Andrew Bowling served with the United States Marine Corps in L Company, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines, Regimental Combat Team 1, 1st Marine Division, based at Camp Pendleton, California. Born in Casselberry, Florida, he was deployed to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Operation Iraqi Freedom commenced on March 19, 2003, aimed at toppling the government of Saddam Hussein. U.S. forces engaged in extensive military operations throughout Iraq, with Al Anbar Province being one of the conflict's significant battlegrounds.

On November 11, 2004, CPL Bowling was killed in action during hostile engagements in Al Anbar Province. This region was known for intense combat as Coalition forces faced insurgent resistance.

The Department of Defense confirmed his death, marking a somber moment for his family and comrades. His passing underscores the human cost of the conflict, which continued until its conclusion in August 2010.
