Their Story

Staff Sergeant Elvis Bourdon was born in Youngstown, Ohio. He joined the United States Army and served with Company C, 1st Battalion, 9th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division. His unit was based at Fort Hood, Texas.

During his military service, SSG Bourdon was deployed to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. This operation, commencing in March 2003, was a United States-led coalition effort aimed at toppling the regime in Iraq.

Tragically, on September 6, 2004, SSG Bourdon lost his life in Baghdad, Iraq. The Department of Defense recorded his death as a result of hostile action, a stark reminder of the dangers faced by military personnel in conflict zones.

SSG Bourdon was 36 years old at the time of his passing. His contributions are remembered by his unit and the broader community in Youngstown, where he grew up.
