SPC Mathew George Boule, an American soldier from Dracut, MA, died at 22 in Karbala, Iraq, serving with the Army's 2nd Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment.

Their Story

Mathew George Boule was born and raised in Dracut, Massachusetts. At the age of 22, he served as a Specialist in the United States Army. He was assigned to Company B, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment, based at Hunter Army Airfield in Georgia.

SPC Boule was deployed to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, a military campaign initiated by the United States and its allies that began on March 19, 2003. The operation aimed to remove the regime of Saddam Hussein and establish a new governmental framework in Iraq.

On April 2, 2003, SPC Boule was killed in action in Karbala, Iraq. His death came just weeks into the conflict, marking one of the early casualties in a protracted and complex military engagement.

His service and sacrifice are remembered by those who knew him and alongside his fellow service members who participated in the operation. SPC Boule's commitment to his duties and his ultimate sacrifice are part of the broader narrative of the conflict, which saw many lives affected on all sides.
