Their Story
Bryan Eugene Bolander was born and raised in Bakersfield, California. As a young man, he chose to join the United States Army, dedicating himself to a path of service. He served with the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
During his military career, Bolander was deployed to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, a conflict that began in March 2003. His service took him to Baghdad, a city that saw significant military operations and conflict during the war. It was here, amid the hostilities of war, that Bolander lost his life.
On April 29, 2008, at the age of 26, Staff Sergeant Bolander was killed in Baghdad due to hostile actions. His death was confirmed by the Department of Defense, marking a somber moment for his family, friends, and fellow soldiers.
