Their Story

Jeremiah James Boehmer was an American combatant who served with Company C, 562d Engineer Battalion, 172d Stryker Brigade Combat Team, stationed at Fort Wainwright, Alaska. He hailed from Parkston, South Dakota and held the rank of Sergeant.

Boehmer was deployed to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, a conflict initiated in March 2003. This operation was aimed at toppling the regime in Iraq and stabilizing the region, which involved significant U.S. military engagement over several years.

On February 5, 2006, Boehmer lost his life in Al Husayniyah, Iraq. His death was classified as hostile, indicating it resulted from enemy action during the conflict.

Boehmer's passing at the age of 22 represented one of the many American lives lost in the operation, which saw 4,418 U.S. military fatalities by its conclusion in August 2010.

His service and sacrifice are remembered as part of the broader narrative of Operation Iraqi Freedom, a complex and prolonged military engagement that left lasting impacts on those who served and the regions involved.
