James Patrick Blecksmith was a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. Born and raised in San Marino, California, Blecksmith was a member of I Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team-1, 1st Marine Division, stationed at Camp Pendleton, California.
He was among the many American service members deployed to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, a conflict that began in March 2003. On November 11, 2004, during operations in Fallujah, Iraq, Blecksmith lost his life. The Marine Corps reported his cause of death as hostile action.
