Lance Corporal Jeffery Steven Blanton was a Marine serving his country in Operation Iraqi Freedom when his life was brought to a tragic end. Born and raised in Fayetteville, Georgia, Blanton was known among his peers for his dedication and commitment to the mission.
Assigned to C Company, 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, Blanton was part of the Regimental Combat Team 1, 1st Marine Division, 3rd Marine Division, based at Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. His service took him to some of the most intense battlegrounds in Iraq.
On December 12, 2004, Blanton was involved in operations in Fallujah, a city that had become a focal point of conflict during the Iraq War. It was here that he encountered hostile forces, which ultimately led to his death.
Blanton's death is a reminder of the human cost of the Iraq War, which began on March 19, 2003. His sacrifice is remembered by his family, friends, and fellow service members who continue to honor his memory.
