Their Story
Joseph Anthony Blanco, a Sergeant in the United States Army, was serving with Company B, 7th Squadron, 10th Cavalry, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division. He was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas before his deployment to Iraq.
On April 11, 2006, Sergeant Blanco was killed in action in Taji, Iraq. His death was classified as a result of hostile action. He was one of 4,418 American service members who lost their lives during the course of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Born and raised in Bloomington, California, Blanco dedicated his life to military service, joining the Army and eventually reaching the rank of Sergeant. His commitment was emblematic of the thousands who served in the conflict.
