Charles Edward Bilbrey II, a 21-year-old American soldier, died on July 26, 2007, in Saqlawiyah, Iraq, while serving in the U.S. Army during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Their Story

Charles Edward Bilbrey II was a dedicated soldier from Owego, New York. At the age of 21, he served in the Active Duty Army as part of Troop A, 5th Squadron, 7th Cavalry, stationed at Fort Stewart, Georgia.

Bilbrey was deployed to Iraq as part of the U.S. military's Operation Iraqi Freedom, a conflict initiated on March 19, 2003. This operation saw a large-scale deployment of American forces in Iraq with the aim of removing the then-government.

On July 26, 2007, in the town of Saqlawiyah, Iraq, SPC Bilbrey tragically lost his life in a hostile incident. His death was a solemn reminder of the dangers faced by combatants in the region.

His loss was deeply felt in his hometown of Owego and among those who served alongside him. His service and sacrifice are remembered with respect and sorrow.

Operation Iraqi Freedom, which claimed many lives, officially concluded in August 2010, marking an end to this chapter of military engagement in Iraq.
