Bevington was deployed to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, a military operation that began on March 19, 2003. This operation was a US-led coalition effort aimed at toppling the regime in Iraq. The conflict saw numerous deployments of American military personnel over several years.

On September 21, 2006, Bevington was killed in Ramadi, a city that was a significant site of conflict during the operation. His death was categorized as hostile, indicating it occurred as a result of combat activities.
