Bernstein, David Richard

Their Story
David Richard Bernstein, known to those close to him as David, was a young officer from Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, who joined the U.S. Army with a commitment to serve. At 24, he held the rank of First Lieutenant and was assigned to Company B, 1st Battalion, 508th Infantry. His service was part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, a conflict that began with a U.S.-led invasion on March 19, 2003.
On October 18, 2003, 1LT Bernstein was in Taza, Iraq, when he lost his life. The U.S. Army recorded his death as a result of hostile action. Serving far from home, his passing was a stark reminder of the human cost of military operations.
Operation Iraqi Freedom, the conflict in which Bernstein was involved, was aimed at toppling the regime of Saddam Hussein. It brought many young soldiers to Iraq, each of whom faced unpredictable dangers.
