Richard Allan Bennett, an American Marine from Girard, KS, served in HMLA-169, MAG-39, 3D MAW. He died in Al Taqaddum, Iraq on May 30, 2006, at age 25.

Their Story

Richard Allan Bennett, a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps, was serving with the Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 169, Marine Aircraft Group 39, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing based at Camp Pendleton, California. Originally from Girard, Kansas, Bennett was one of many servicemen deployed during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

On May 30, 2006, Bennett was killed in action in Al Taqaddum, Iraq. Al Taqaddum, located in the Anbar Province, served as a key base for U.S. military operations during the conflict. His death was formally recorded in the Defense Casualty Analysis System, marking a somber day for his unit and family.

Operation Iraqi Freedom commenced on March 19, 2003, following a U.S.-led invasion of Iraq. The operation aimed to dismantle weapons of mass destruction and end Saddam Hussein's rule. The conflict persisted until August 2010, with many servicemen like Bennett serving through challenging and dangerous conditions.

Corporal Bennett's sacrifice is remembered alongside thousands of others who served in the Iraq War. His legacy is honored by those who knew him and by the military community at large. His family, friends, and fellow Marines continue to mourn his loss.
