Their Story

Sergeant Aubrey Dale Bell was a dedicated member of the United States Army National Guard, serving with the 214th Military Police Company based in Alexandria City, Alabama. Born and raised in Tuskegee, Alabama, Bell was known for his commitment to service and his role within his unit.

During Operation Iraqi Freedom, which began in March 2003, Bell was deployed to Iraq, a country embroiled in conflict following the U.S.-led invasion. His assignment took him to Baghdad, a central location in the ongoing military operations aimed at stabilizing the region.

On October 27, 2003, while fulfilling his duties, Bell's life was tragically cut short in a hostile incident. His death contributed to the sobering toll of 4,418 American military personnel who lost their lives throughout the operation.

Bell’s passing was a significant loss to his unit and to his community back home in Alabama. His service and sacrifice are remembered by those who served alongside him and by his loved ones who continue to honor his memory.

The conflict in which Bell served, Operation Iraqi Freedom, officially concluded in August 2010. The war had lasting implications for both the region and the soldiers who fought there.
