PFC Matthew Alan Bean, 22, from Pembroke, MA, served in the U.S. Army. He died on May 31, 2007, during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Their Story

Private First Class Matthew Alan Bean was born and raised in Pembroke, Massachusetts. At the age of 22, he served as an active duty soldier in the U.S. Army with Battery A, 2nd Battalion, 15th Field Artillery Regiment, based at Fort Drum, New York. His commitment to his unit and his country was evident in his service.

Operation Iraqi Freedom, which began in March 2003, was a significant chapter in Bean's military career. The operation involved complex military engagements and required dedication from all who served. Tragically, on May 31, 2007, Bean's life was cut short while he was in Bethesda, United States.

Bean's death was the result of hostile actions. His passing is marked with sorrow, both by his family and the broader community. His sacrifice is among the 4,418 American lives lost in the operation, a reminder of the human cost of conflict.

His service and dedication are remembered by those who knew him and by the nation he served. In honoring his memory, we acknowledge the profound loss felt by many and the enduring impact of his life.
