Matthew Edward Baylis served as a Specialist in the U.S. Army's Company C, 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado. He was deployed to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, a military campaign that began in March 2003.
On May 31, 2007, Baylis was killed in Baghdad, Iraq, as a result of hostile action. He was one of many American service members who lost their lives during this period of intense conflict and violence.
