Their Story
Daniel Dean Bartels served as a Specialist in the United States Army, assigned to HHC, 4th Squadron, 14th Cavalry Regiment, part of the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Fort Wainwright, Alaska. He was deployed to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, a conflict that began on March 19, 2003.
On October 19, 2005, Bartels lost his life at Merez Aid Station in Iraq. The Defense Casualty Analysis System recorded his death on this day, marking his sacrifice in the line of duty.
