Barta, John Paul

Corporal John Paul Barta served in the United States Army, specifically in Company D, 1st Squadron, 12th Cavalry Regiment, part of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. Originally from Corpus Christi, Texas, Barta was among the thousands of American servicemen deployed to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Barta's deployment to Iraq came at a time when the conflict was entering its fourth year, following the initial invasion in March 2003. American forces were engaged in various operations aimed at maintaining security and countering insurgent activities across the country. Buhritz, a location in Iraq where Barta was stationed, witnessed numerous military engagements during this period.

On December 23, 2006, Corporal Barta was killed in hostile action in Buhritz. The details of his passing highlight the inherent risks faced by military personnel serving in conflict zones. His death contributed to the broader narrative of the human cost of the conflict.
