Sergeant Lester Domenico Baroncini Jr was a dedicated member of the U.S. Army, serving with Company A, 2nd Battalion, 505th Infantry, based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Born and raised in Bakersfield, California, Baroncini chose to commit his life to military service, joining the ranks of soldiers deployed in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
On October 15, 2006, Baroncini was killed in action in Samarra, Iraq. As a participant in one of the major military operations of the early 21st century, he was among the 4,418 American military personnel who lost their lives during the conflict.
Operation Iraqi Freedom, which began in March 2003, was a significant military campaign aimed at toppling the regime of Saddam Hussein. The conflict, marked by extensive combat operations and a challenging post-war reconstruction phase, officially concluded in August 2010.
