Their Story

Charles Yi Barnett was born in Bel Air, Maryland. At the age of 19, he joined the United States Army, serving with Company E, 2D Squadron, 12th Cavalry, 4th BCT stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. His commitment led him to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, a conflict initiated by the United States in March 2003.

Operation Iraqi Freedom aimed to dismantle weapons of mass destruction and end the regime of Saddam Hussein. Barnett's unit was deployed to Iraq, where military operations were ongoing against various insurgent groups.

On November 20, 2008, PV2 Barnett was killed in action at Tallil, a locality known for its military base, COB Adder. His death was officially confirmed by the Department of Defense.

Barnett's passing reflects the human cost of military engagements. He was among the many service members who lost their lives during the Iraq War, which continued until August 2010.

The loss of PV2 Barnett is felt deeply by his family, friends, and comrades. His service and sacrifice are remembered with solemn respect.
