Their Story

Staff Sergeant Metodio Amboni Bandonill served in the U.S. Army with Troop B, 1st Squadron, 75th Cavalry, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He was deployed to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, a conflict initiated in March 2003.

On April 24, 2006, SSG Bandonill, at the age of 29, lost his life in Baghdad due to hostile action, as confirmed by the Department of Defense. Operation Iraqi Freedom, which saw significant combat activity, was particularly deadly during the years 2005 to 2007.

Bandonill hailed from Honolulu, Hawaii, where he grew up before joining the military. His service in Iraq was part of a broader mission aimed at stabilizing the region post-invasion, a challenging task characterized by complex engagements.

His passing is a solemn reminder of the costs of military engagements and the personal sacrifices made by servicemen and women. SSG Bandonill's death is marked by the grief of his family, friends, and fellow soldiers who remember his dedication and service.
