Their Story

Stephen Phillip Baldwyn was born and raised in Saltillo, Mississippi. From a young age, he was known for his dedication and commitment to service, traits that led him to enlist in the United States Marine Corps. He served with Weapons Company, 3rd Battalion, 8th Marines, 2nd Marine Division, based out of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

In 2003, the United States launched Operation Iraqi Freedom, an effort to remove the regime of Saddam Hussein. The operation marked a complex and challenging period as U.S. forces engaged in combat and reconstruction efforts in Iraq. By 2005, Baldwyn was deployed to the region as part of this ongoing mission.

On May 9, 2005, PFC Baldwyn, just 19 years old, was killed in hostile action in Nasser Wa Salaam, a town situated in the Al Anbar Governorate of Iraq. The Department of Defense confirmed his death as a result of hostile actions, a stark reminder of the dangers faced by military personnel in conflict zones.

Stephen Phillip Baldwyn's sacrifice is remembered by his family, friends, and fellow service members. His passing brought grief to those who knew him, highlighting the human cost of military conflict and the profound loss experienced by families worldwide.
