Baddick, Andrew Joseph
Andrew Joseph Baddick, an American soldier, died on September 30, 2003, at age 26, in Abu Ghraib, Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Their Story
Andrew Joseph Baddick was born and raised in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania. He served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army's Company A, 1st Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Baddick was among the many soldiers deployed to Iraq following the commencement of Operation Iraqi Freedom in March 2003.
The operation, intended to dismantle the regime of Saddam Hussein, saw U.S. forces quickly advancing into the country. As the conflict persisted, maintaining security and stability proved challenging. It was against this backdrop that SGT Baddick lost his life on September 30, 2003, in Abu Ghraib, a location that later became infamous for its prison.
His death marked a significant loss for his family, friends, and the community of Jim Thorpe, where he was remembered for his dedication and service. SGT Baddick was one of 4,418 American military personnel who perished during the Iraq War.
