Jason Russell Arnette, an American soldier from Amelia, VA, died at the age of 24 in Baghdad, Iraq on April 1, 2007 during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Their Story
Jason Russell Arnette served in the U.S. Army as part of Company C, 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, stationed out of Fort Drum, New York. He was deployed to Iraq during the contentious Operation Iraqi Freedom, a conflict that began in March 2003.
On April 1, 2007, Staff Sergeant Arnette lost his life in Baghdad as a result of hostile actions. His passing was part of a period marked by heightened violence following the 2006 bombing of the al-Askari shrine in Samarra, which intensified sectarian conflict in the region.
