Armand, Reynold
Cpl. Reynold Armand, a Marine from Rochester, NY, was killed in action on August 7, 2007, in Balad, Iraq, during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Their Story
Reynold Armand, an American Marine, served with the Headquarters Company, 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, based at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. At 21, he was deployed to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, a conflict initiated in March 2003 that sought to eliminate alleged weapons of mass destruction and topple the regime of Saddam Hussein.
Cpl. Armand's deployment coincided with a particularly violent period in Iraq. The years 2005 to 2007 marked some of the deadliest phases of the conflict, characterized by a surge in sectarian violence following the bombing of the al-Askari shrine in Samarra in 2006.
His unit was stationed in Balad, a key location due to its proximity to logistical and military operations. On August 7, 2007, Cpl. Armand was killed in action, adding his name to the somber list of those who did not return home from the conflict.
Reynold Armand was remembered in his hometown of Rochester, NY, for his service and the sacrifice he made at such a young age. The grief of losing a loved one in war is profound and shared by families across all nations involved.
Operation Iraqi Freedom, which spanned over seven years, formally concluded in August 2010. The impact of the conflict, however, continues to be felt deeply by those who served and the families they left behind.
