Staff Sergeant Faoa Leonidas Apineru, an American Marine, was born and raised in Yorba Linda, California. He enlisted with the U.S. Marine Corps and served with the I-I Support Staff, Headquarters Company, 23rd Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division based in San Bruno, California.
During his service, Apineru was part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, a military campaign that began in March 2003. The conflict was initiated with the aim of dismantling weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and ended in August 2010.
