Major Stuart Marlin Anderson, an American reservist from Peosta, Iowa, died in action on January 7, 2006, in Zambar Mountain, Iraq.

Their Story

Major Stuart Marlin Anderson served with the 3rd Corps Support Command, 89th United States Army Reserve Command, based out of Des Moines, Iowa. He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserve and was actively deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

On January 7, 2006, Major Anderson was killed in action at Zambar Mountain, Iraq. His death marked a poignant moment during a period of intense military operations, where Coalition forces faced significant challenges on the ground.

Operation Iraqi Freedom, launched in March 2003, aimed at toppling Saddam Hussein's regime and establishing a democratic government. The years 2005 to 2007 were notably violent, with escalating sectarian conflict following the bombing of the al-Askari shrine in Samarra in 2006.

Major Anderson's loss was felt deeply within his unit and back home in Peosta, where he was remembered for his dedication and service. His contribution to the mission underscores the human cost of the conflict and the personal sacrifices made by service members.

The Zambar Mountain operation, like many during the war, involved complex engagements that highlighted the unpredictability and danger faced by soldiers daily. Major Anderson's passing is a reminder of the fragile nature of life during wartime.
