Anderson, Nicholas Hale
Nicholas Hale Anderson, a 19-year-old Marine from Las Vegas, died in Mahmudiyah, Iraq on November 12, 2004 during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Their Story
Nicholas Hale Anderson, born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada, dedicated himself to serving his country at a young age. As a Lance Corporal with the United States Marine Corps, he was assigned to the Weapons Company, 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, part of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, Regimental Combat Team 1 of the 1st Marine Division, based in Camp Pendleton, California.
In 2004, Anderson deployed to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, a conflict that began in March 2003. The operation aimed to dismantle weapons of mass destruction and end Saddam Hussein's regime. However, as the initial military campaign concluded, the mission evolved into a complex and protracted engagement.
On November 12, 2004, Lance Corporal Anderson was killed by hostile fire in Mahmudiyah, a town located in the Babil province of Iraq. This area was known for insurgent activity, making it a perilous environment for military personnel.
Anderson was 19 years old at the time of his death. His loss was felt deeply by his unit, family, and community, who mourned the passing of a young man committed to his duty in challenging circumstances.
Operation Iraqi Freedom officially ended in August 2010, but the impact of the conflict, including the loss of young lives like Anderson's, continues to be felt by those who served and their families.
