Their Story
Cpl. Daniel Ray Amaya, a Marine with K Company, 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines, Regimental Combat Team 1, 1st Marine Division, was stationed at Twentynine Palms, California before his deployment to Iraq. Hailing from Odessa, Texas, Amaya dedicated himself to military service as part of the United States Marine Corps.
On April 11, 2004, during operations in Al Anbar Province, Iraq, Cpl. Amaya lost his life in an encounter classified as hostile. Al Anbar Province was a significant area of conflict during the early years of Operation Iraqi Freedom, which began in March 2003. This operation saw the involvement of numerous U.S. military personnel engaged in a complex environment of insurgency.
