Lance Corporal Joshua Christopher Alonzo, an American Marine from Dumas, Texas, served with G Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines, under the command of Regimental Combat Team 7, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), and the 3rd Marine Division stationed at Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.
Alonzo was deployed to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, a military campaign initiated on March 19, 2003. The operation aimed to dismantle weapons of mass destruction and end the regime of Saddam Hussein. The conflict saw a significant U.S. military presence in Iraq.
