Ivan Vargas Alarcon was born and raised in Jerome, Idaho, where he developed a strong sense of duty and commitment to his country. He enlisted in the United States Army and served as a Staff Sergeant in the 473rd Quartermaster Company, part of the Multi-National Corps Iraq.

On November 17, 2005, while deployed in Tal Afar, Iraq, Staff Sergeant Alarcon was killed in action. His death came during Operation Iraqi Freedom, a conflict initiated on March 19, 2003, with the aim of dismantling Saddam Hussein's regime and establishing a democratic government in Iraq.

Alarcon's service was characterized by dedication and professionalism. He was stationed at Hunter Army Airfield in Georgia before his deployment. His company was responsible for a variety of logistics and supply tasks crucial to the operation's success.

The loss of Staff Sergeant Alarcon was felt deeply by his family, friends, and comrades. He was one of 4,418 American service members who died during Operation Iraqi Freedom, a reminder of the human cost of military conflict.
