Their Story
Specialist Jamaal Rashard Addison served in the U.S. Army as part of the V Corps, 507th Maintenance Company, stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas. Addison was deployed to Iraq at the onset of Operation Iraqi Freedom, a conflict initiated on March 19, 2003.
Born and raised in Conyers, Georgia, Addison was a young man of 22 when he embarked on this mission. He was among the first wave of U.S. forces involved in the military campaign, which aimed to dismantle alleged weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
On March 23, 2003, just days after the conflict began, Addison's unit was involved in an engagement in Al-Samurah, Iraq. During this hostile encounter, Addison lost his life, becoming one of the first casualties of the operation.
