Their Story

Private First Class Steven Acosta served with Company C, 3rd Battalion, 67th Armor Regiment. A native of Calexico, California, he was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas prior to his deployment.

Acosta was part of the US Army's efforts in Operation Iraqi Freedom, a military operation that began in March 2003. The campaign was launched following claims of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

On October 26, 2003, Acosta lost his life in Ba'qubah, Iraq, a city northeast of Baghdad that witnessed significant conflict during the operation.

His passing, at the age of 19, marked a somber moment for his family, his unit, and his community back home. The loss of young lives in conflicts is a profound reminder of the human cost of war.
