Captain Benjamin A. Sklaver, 32, of Medford, Massachusetts, was a civil affairs officer serving with the U.S. Army's 422nd Civil Affairs Battalion, attached to Task Force Stryker in Afghanistan.

Sgt. Aaron Michael Smith, 25, of Manhattan, Kansas, was a U.S. Army infantryman serving with Task Force Spartan in Afghanistan. He died on October 2, 2009, in Wardak province.

U.S. Army Specialist Russell Shane Hercules Jr., 22, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, died on October 1, 2009, at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, from hostile enemy fire.

Sgt. Roberto Daniel Sanchez, 24, of Patrick Air Force Base, Florida, was a U.S. Army Ranger assigned to Company B, 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. He was killed in action in the Zharay District of Afghanistan on October 1, 2009.

Paul Eugene Andersen, a 49-year-old from Dowagiac, MI, served with the U.S. Army's 855th Quartermaster Company and died on October 1, 2009, in Baghdad, Iraq.

U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Alex Iv French, 31, of Milledgeville, Georgia, was killed in a hostile incident on September 30, 2009, in KWHOST, Afghanistan.

U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Jack Mayfield Martin III, 26, of Bethany, Oklahoma, was killed in a hostile incident on Jolo Island, Philippines, on September 29, 2009.

U.S. Army Sergeant First Class Christopher Donnell Shaw, 37, of Markham, Illinois, was a Special Forces soldier assigned to Company C, 3rd Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group, based at Fort Lewis, Washington.

U.S. Army Specialist Ross Eugene Vogel III, 27, of Red Lion, Pennsylvania, was killed in action on September 29, 2009, at Forward Operating Base Delta in Iraq.

Lance Corporal Jordan Lee Chrobot, 24, of Frederick, Maryland, was a U.S. Marine killed in a hostile incident at Camp Dwyer, Afghanistan, on September 26, 2009.

U.S. Army Specialist Kevin James Graham, 27, of Benton, Kentucky, was killed in a hostile incident at Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, on September 26, 2009.

Lance Corporal John Joel Malone, 24, of Yonkers, New York, was a U.S. Marine killed in hostile action in Delaram, Afghanistan, on September 24, 2009.

U.S. Army Sergeant Titus R. Reynolds, 23, of Columbus, Ohio, was killed in action on September 24, 2009, in Omar Zai, Afghanistan.

U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Edward Bernard Smith, 30, of Homestead, Florida, was killed in hostile action on September 24, 2009, in Omar Zai, Afghanistan. He was assigned to Company B, 4th Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 5th Stryker Brigade

Joseph Valere White, an American soldier from Bellevue, WA, died on September 24, 2009, in Omar Zai, Afghanistan, while serving in Operation Enduring Freedom.

U.S. Army Private First Class William L. Meredith, 26, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, died on September 21, 2009, in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, while serving with the 569th Engineer Company.
