Technical Sergeant Daniel Lee Zerbe was an American serviceman born in York, Pennsylvania. He served in the United States Air Force with the 24th Special Tactics Squadron, stationed at Pope Field, North Carolina. Zerbe was part of a unit known for its specialized operations.
On August 6, 2011, TSGT Zerbe lost his life in Tangi Valley, Afghanistan, while participating in Operation Enduring Freedom. This operation, which began in October 2001 following the September 11 attacks, marked the United States' efforts in combating terrorism in Afghanistan.
Zerbe's death occurred alongside several of his comrades when their CH-47 Chinook helicopter was reportedly shot down by enemy forces. This event resulted in one of the deadliest days for U.S. forces in the Afghanistan conflict.
