Trevor Jon Yurista, a native of Pleasant Valley, New York, served in the United States Marine Corps with Headquarters Company, 5th Marines, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division, based at Camp Pendleton, California. He was deployed as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, a mission that began in October 2001 following the September 11 attacks.

On October 27, 2008, Capt. Yurista tragically lost his life in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. The official cause of death was reported as hostile action. At the time of his death, he was 32 years old, serving his country in a conflict that spanned over a decade.
