CPT Roberto Jose Yllescas, an American soldier from Lincoln, NE, served with Troop B, 6th Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment and died on December 1, 2008 in Bethesda, MD.
Their Story
Roberto Jose Yllescas was born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska. He joined the United States Army, where he served as a Captain with Troop B, 6th Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, stationed at Fort Hood, Texas.
During Operation Enduring Freedom, Yllescas was deployed to Afghanistan, a country experiencing significant instability as the Taliban insurgency intensified. His service also included deployments to the Philippines and the Horn of Africa, regions critical to U.S. military operations against terrorism.
While serving in Afghanistan, Yllescas was involved in operations aimed at countering the growing insurgent threat. On October 28, 2008, he sustained severe injuries due to an improvised explosive device (IED) attack.
He was subsequently transported to the United States for medical treatment. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Yllescas succumbed to his injuries on December 1, 2008, at a medical facility in Bethesda, Maryland.
His death is a reminder of the ongoing dangers faced by military personnel in conflict zones and the personal sacrifices made by individuals and their families.
