Specialist Sterling William Wyatt was a dedicated soldier from Columbia, Missouri, serving in the U.S. Army's Company C, 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. Born and raised in Columbia, he enlisted with a commitment to serve his nation and joined the Army, where he was noted for his dedication and camaraderie.

Wyatt deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, a military operation that began in October 2001 with the objective of dismantling terrorist organizations. His unit, an infantry regiment, was tasked with various operations in volatile regions, including Kandahar, a significant area of conflict during the war.

On July 11, 2012, Specialist Wyatt was killed in a hostile incident in Kandahar. His passing was part of the broader human cost of the operation, a conflict that saw the loss of 2,356 American service members over nearly 13 years.
