Joe Lee Wrightsman, an American Marine Sergeant from Jonesboro, LA, was killed in action on July 18, 2010, in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.
Their Story
Joe Lee Wrightsman was born and raised in Jonesboro, Louisiana. At a young age, he decided to serve his country by joining the United States Marine Corps. Wrightsman became part of the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, based in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.
Operation Enduring Freedom, a military operation initiated in response to the September 11, 2001 attacks, saw Wrightsman deployed to Afghanistan. His unit was tasked with various operations in the volatile Helmand Province, a region that witnessed significant conflict.
On July 18, 2010, Sergeant Wrightsman was killed in action in Helmand Province. His death was part of a larger toll on U.S. service members during the conflict, which claimed the lives of 2,356 American personnel throughout the course of the operation.
Wrightsman was 23 years old at the time of his passing. The loss was deeply felt by his family, fellow Marines, and the community of Jonesboro, Louisiana. His commitment and service to the nation are remembered with solemn respect.
