Their Story
Frank Joseph-alfonso World, a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, was serving with the 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, Marine Expeditionary Brigade–Afghanistan (Forward), 2nd Marine Division, out of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Born in Buffalo, New York, World was deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, a mission that began in October 2001.
On April 1, 2010, World was killed in action in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. His death was recorded in the Defense Casualty Analysis System the same day, marking another loss in the protracted conflict.
World's deployment to Afghanistan was part of a broader strategy involving operations in the Philippines and the Horn of Africa, reflecting the global nature of U.S. military efforts during this period.
