Their Story

Sergeant Chris John Workman, a dedicated member of the United States Army, was part of Company A, 2nd Battalion, 25th Aviation Regiment, 25th Combat Aviation Brigade stationed at Wheeler Army Airfield, Hawaii. He was deployed to Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom, a conflict initiated in response to the events of September 11, 2001.

On April 19, 2012, Sergeant Workman was killed in action in Divalak, Afghanistan. At the time of his death, he was 33 years old. He served his country with commitment in a region beset by prolonged conflict, as the U.S. military sought to reduce the influence of the Taliban and stabilize Afghanistan.

Workman's service took him across several regions, including Afghanistan, the Philippines, and the Horn of Africa, where the U.S. military was engaged in broader anti-terrorism operations. His role in the U.S. Army's aviation regiment was crucial to providing support and logistics in these challenging environments.

His passing was part of the human cost of Operation Enduring Freedom, which officially concluded in December 2014. Workman's sacrifice is remembered as part of the broader narrative of those who served during this complex conflict, far from home in Boise, Idaho.
