Travis Martin Woods, a 21-year-old Marine from Redding, CA, died in Afghanistan on September 9, 2007, during Operation Enduring Freedom.

Their Story

Corporal Travis Martin Woods served with the United States Marine Corps as part of I Company, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division, based in Camp Pendleton, California. On September 9, 2007, Woods was killed in a hostile incident in Bastion Roe2, Afghanistan.

Woods was part of Operation Enduring Freedom, the U.S.-led operation initiated in October 2001 in response to the September 11 attacks, aimed at dismantling the Taliban and disrupting terrorist activities in Afghanistan. His deployment to Afghanistan placed him among thousands of service members committed to these objectives.

The Department of Defense confirmed his death, marking a somber moment in the extended conflict that saw numerous American and coalition forces engaged in various military operations across the region.

Born and raised in Redding, California, Woods joined the Marines with a dedication to serve his country. His time in the service included deployments not only to Afghanistan but also to other locations such as the Philippines and the Horn of Africa, reflecting the global scope of U.S. military commitments during this period.

The community of Redding, his family, and fellow Marines remember him for his service and the ultimate sacrifice he made while fulfilling his duties.
