Their Story
Staff Sergeant Romanes Lee Woodard, a native of Hertford, North Carolina, served in the United States Army as part of the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 508th Infantry Regiment (CJTF-76), based in Camp Ederle, Italy. Born in 1974, Woodard dedicated his life to military service.
Tragically, on April 6, 2005, Woodard was killed in action in Ghazni, Afghanistan. His deployment was part of Operation Enduring Freedom, a military campaign initiated by the United States and its allies in response to the September 11 attacks. The operation aimed to dismantle terrorist groups and stabilize regions in Afghanistan.
