Petty Officer Third Class Zarian Andre Wood, a sailor in the United States Navy, was deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Wood served with the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines, Regimental Combat Team 7, 1st Marine Division Forward, I Marine Expeditionary Force Forward.
On May 16, 2010, Wood was killed in a hostile encounter at Bagram Air Field, a strategically significant location during the U.S. military operations in Afghanistan. His death marked a somber moment in the extended conflict, which had begun in response to the September 11 attacks and continued through December 2014.
