Their Story
Aaron Xavier Wittman, known to many as a dedicated and courageous soldier, was born in Chester, Virginia. Enlisting in the United States Army, he served with distinction as part of Company A, 3rd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, based at Fort Stewart, Georgia.
Wittman's military service saw him deployed to various regions including Afghanistan, the Philippines, and the Horn of Africa, as part of the United States' broader military engagements. In Afghanistan, he was part of Operation Enduring Freedom, a protracted conflict initiated in October 2001.
On January 10, 2013, Wittman lost his life in Khogyani, a district in Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan. His death was classified as a result of hostile actions. He was among the 2,356 American service members who died during the operation.
