SSG William Robert Wilson III was an American combatant who served in the United States Army. Born and raised in Getzville, New York, he was part of Company A, 2-28th Infantry Regiment, 172nd Infantry Brigade, under the Combined Joint Task Force 1, known as Task Force Blackhawk.
Wilson joined the Army with a commitment to serve his nation, finding himself deployed to Afghanistan during the protracted conflict known as Operation Enduring Freedom. This operation, aimed at dismantling terrorist organizations and stabilizing the region, commenced in October 2001.
The mission in Afghanistan was fraught with danger, and Wilson was reportedly in an active combat zone in Dewana, a location known for its hostile engagements. On March 26, 2012, Wilson lost his life in an incident classified as hostile by the United States Department of Defense.
