Their Story
Thomas Randolph Wilson was born and raised in Morgantown, West Virginia. At 21, he joined the U.S. Army and was assigned to the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry, 173rd Airborne Brigade, based in Vicenza, Italy.
On August 27, 2007, Wilson was deployed as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, a military operation initiated in October 2001 in response to the September 11 attacks. His service took him to Paktika Province, a region in southeastern Afghanistan known for its rugged terrain and ongoing conflict.
While serving in Paktika, Wilson encountered hostile actions, which ultimately led to his death. His loss was felt deeply by his comrades and family, reflecting the personal toll of the prolonged conflict.
Operation Enduring Freedom formally concluded in December 2014, marking the end of one of the longest military engagements in U.S. history. Wilson's death is a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by many during this operation.
