SGT David Vincent Williams, 24, from Frederick, MD, served in the U.S. Army and died in Kandahar, Afghanistan, on August 18, 2012.

Their Story

David Vincent Williams was born in Frederick, Maryland. At the age of 24, he served as a Sergeant in the United States Army. He was part of the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 1st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, based at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington.

Williams was deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, a mission initiated in response to the September 11, 2001 attacks. The operation aimed to dismantle al-Qaeda and remove the Taliban from power. On August 18, 2012, Williams' life was tragically cut short during combat operations in Kandahar, a region that witnessed significant military activity over the years.

His death was recorded in the Defense Casualty Analysis System, marking another somber entry in the long list of service members who perished during the conflict. As with all who serve, his loss was deeply felt by family, friends, and fellow soldiers who remembered his dedication and service.

The conflict he participated in, Operation Enduring Freedom, spanned over a decade and concluded in December 2014. Williams' sacrifice is a testament to the enduring challenges faced by those deployed in Afghanistan during this period.
